The Pasadena Community Orchestra is excited to announce the winner of the 2013 Young Artist Competition, Tianpeng Yu.
He plays with the Orchestra as soloist in Fryderyk Chopin’s Piano Concert No. 1 in e minor, on May 17, 2013. Also on the program is the Suite from The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, and Die Entführung aus dem Serail Overture by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Chinese-born soloist Tianpeng Yu, a student at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music, has already performed Chopin to international acclaim, including winning the Gold Prize in the junior division of the the 5th International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia. In 2009, his performance of the Chopin Fantasy earned him first prize in the Music Center’s Spotlight Awards Competition in Los Angeles, which was broadcast on national television.
